Sounds and 4th grade scientists

Second graders experimented with changing sounds using water in bottles. Some fourth graders shared science experiments and their reports with us.

Cowboys and fractions

We learned about the traditions of cowboys. Students worked in learning teams to share information from Cowboy Gear. They learned about fractions and probability. They learned about Landmarks here and abroad.

Field Trip

We had a great field trip. Our class went to the wetlands first. We saw a bald eagle circling over our heads, frogs having fun, sensitive ferns and acres of poison ivy. No ticks were found! Then we toured the power plant staying in the bus and ate our lunch in a warehouse. Second graders behaved excellently and seemed to enjoy the experience.

Literacy Circles

Students listened to our basket story and then met in their learning teams to read through the story together. After reading it their team leader led a discussion of the story. Finally they summarized it by drawing a sequence chart. Later students made observations using an energy ball.

Magnets and Measuring

Second graders learned about magnets this week. They experimented to find out what materials are attracted to magnets. They worked with magnetic poles observing repelling and attracting. Students worked with metric measurement. They measured how far they could jump. They learned to convert m to cm and dm.

Rocks

Second graders closely observed rocks this week. They tested them with magnets and vinegar. They looked for fossils and crystals. Students listened to stories about rocks, read books about rocks and observed a video all about rocks. They wrote a short dinosaur report, typed it, copied and pasted a picture on it.

Fossils

Second graders examined real fossils, learned about fossil formation, and made their own fake fossils. They listened to books about dinosaurs, observed a video about dinosaurs, played computer games and are writing reports about favorite dinosaurs.

Math problems and Economics

Students are practicing adding and subtracting three digit numbers. They explain their thinking to each other. Second graders drew their shoes and discovered that 14 pairs were made in China, 2 in Indonesia and 3 in Vietnam .

Job Reports and Adding with Money

Students took turns sharing their job reports all week. They did an excellent job sharing and listening. Students learned about training pets. They practiced counting money and making change.

Middle school Guests

Seventh and eighth graders from WMS brought their self-published books to share with Eastbrook students. Our class seemed to enjoy listening to the stories that taught about the importance of friendship and apologizing. Only one of the students had been a former student of mine. He said he was surprised I was still at here.

Butterfly Ballet and Clicking quarters

Second graders were fascinated by the butterfly ballet. We sat in the highest seats and could see the orchestra pit and singers too. This week students have been learning about weather. They have learned about wind, clouds, and air temperature. Students warmed glass bottles with their hands making quarters click.

Busy week

Monday: Students read a play to the third grade. They worked on a craft provided by parents. Tuesday: Students started a March art project by painting a lion. Others worked on learning weather words. Thursday: Students practiced math skills and designed patterns.
