Healthy hearts and math work

Students learned about keeping their hearts healthy through nutrition, movement, and avoiding tobacco.They listened to their heartbeats at rest and after movement. They observed a video produced by American Heart Assoc. They fished for healthy facts and visited kidshealth.org. Students practiced math strategies, counting money, subtracting from 100, and playing a card game.

Happy Valentine's Day

Students enjoyed listening to and then reading a Valentine story. They passed out their cards at playtime. Students enjoyed opening their cards and then feasting on ice cream and toppings provided by our wonderful home room mothers and other parents.

Animal Groups and math practice

Students have been comparing and contrasting animal groups. They sorted animals using a computer program, kidspiration and learned to make a PowerPoint slide about an animal. They made flip books about characteristics of animals and are writing a paragraph about their favorite animal group. Today during math center time, students practiced counting money, subtracting from 100, and learned another version of war.

Plants and Math Practice

Second graders observed a plant, drew it, and labeled its structures. During math activity time students counted money, worked tangram puzzles, and played Pass the Pigs.
